　　1969年卡朋特兄妹正式以“Carpenters”為名推出了他們的首張專輯《Offering》，其中一首Beatles的老歌“Ticket to Ride”在經過他們的翻唱之后大受歡迎，也因此打開了他們的知名度，各地的電臺也紛紛播出了這個全新版本的Ticket to Ride。作曲大師巴特·巴拉克(Burt Bacharach)，也通過電臺廣播認識了這兩位新人，非常欣賞他們的獨特演繹，他找到了唱片公司的另一位老板杰瑞·莫斯(Jerry Moss)要求想辦法安排“Carpenters”為他在一家醫院的慈善義演中獻聲暖場，還希望理查德能大膽改編一些他自己創作的樂曲做成一首聯奏。
